VAT Technology Specialist

At the corporate head office based in Schiphol the position has become vacant for a VAT Technology Specialist. He/she reports to the Group Tax Director, also based in Schiphol and is part of the tax team consisting of 3 people. Furthermore, he/she is a member the GV tax network which is further comprised of international tax managers abroad in local GV operations. The main task and responsibility of the VAT Technology Specialist is to embed Tax Data needs in company systems and technology such as SAP-ERP and other financial systems. The Tax Technologist will work closely with various other departments as Finance, Supply Chain, IT (SAP CoE) and other business partners such as country organisations.
More specifically, main tasks and responsibilities include:
Operational and finance systems
Organise and maintain the technology aspects of the tax control framework for Indirect Tax purposes, by structuring, governing and enhancing processes around VAT and WHT (including their relevant documentation). This includes the GrandVision SAP Indirect Tax & SAP manuals, standard operating procedures, VAT Quick Reference Cards, etc.
Provide implementation support to operational and finance Technology and systems (to comply with increasing digitalization requirements by Tax Authorities);
You will form an integral part of project teams for designated ERP / POS projects and you will ensure that tax requirements are identified and implemented.
Provide day to day support on VAT / system related requirements or issues on SAP, and liaise with 3rd party vendors / IT department for resolution. Support SAP CoE in existing country deployments, addressing issues with existing processes, providing subject matter expertise to local country personnel, and ensuring that controls are in place
Provide advice on ad-hoc queries and support new projects. Has the ability to understand the root cause of user issues. Understand current configuration in order to resolve user issues or provide feedback on current process or transactions, communicate with cross-functional teams to provide solutions; Perform and expand the (in-house) VAT Diagnostics for (mass data) VAT reviews and (live) monitoring of VAT cash flow positions. Analyze, review VAT positions and identify people / process / system gaps and improvements for Indirect Taxes.
VAT / Indirect Tax
Provide support to- and oversee the interaction from Schiphol GL-team (VAT compliance) with Tax Authorities throughout Europe to manage and follow-up (VAT & Intrastat) questionnaires, audits, refund requests;
- Monitoring relevant developments (legislation development / EU court cases of relevance) and inform internal stakeholders;
- Liaise with external tax advisors, where required;
- Identify, review and implement VAT efficiency and optimization opportunities;
GrandVision Global Tax Network
Provide technical and detailed expertise on Tax Technology (ERP & POS systems) to the GrandVision Global network of International Tax Managers and local countries, including overall VAT advisory, exchange best practices and support VAT audits and litigations;
Support in review and identify people / process / system improvements for Indirect Tax / Systems, and lead / support International Tax Manager / local teams in the implementation thereof.
- A solid background in international and pan European VAT and experience with VAT aspects of international supply chains
- Experience with VAT Automation and a strong understanding of ERP (SAP) transaction processes and data structure.
- Self starter, result oriented, sense of ownership and project leadership;
- Ability to work with cross functional and cross cultural teams;
- Proven ability to meet deadlines in compressed timeframes; ability to manage priorities;
- Travel: Estimated maximum 20% of your working time, highly depending on Projects in Progress
