FedEx
Tax Compliance Manager | Hoofddorp
Position
Within FedEx’s Dutch Tax team, a position has arisen for a Tax Compliance Manager. The role is primarily focused on Dutch corporate income tax compliance and tax accounting for the Dutch entities within the FedEx Group, reporting to the Netherlands Regional Tax Manager. The position is a hands-on role with a strong focus on the preparation and coordination of the Dutch corporate income tax compliance cycle. You will prepare the working papers, fiscal unity consolidations and tax returns for the Dutch entities.
A second important part of the role is the preparation of the Dutch GAAP tax provisions for the statutory financial statements. You will take ownership of the underlying tax positions and calculations, working to ensure that the tax position is properly reflected in the statutory accounts. The role is not primarily focused on US GAAP tax accounting, which sits elsewhere within the organization, although an understanding of US GAAP tax accounting and the ability to use it as a basis for the Dutch GAAP provision is useful.
In addition to compliance and tax accounting, the role includes a technical advisory element. This may involve assessing the tax treatment of specific matters, interpreting Dutch tax legislation and, where required, preparing position papers to support the treatment adopted in a tax return or provision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing and coordinating the annual Dutch corporate income tax compliance process for all Dutch FedEx entities, including fiscal unity and stand-alone returns.
- Preparing the underlying working papers, tax calculations and fiscal unity consolidations and coordinating the review process with external advisor.
- Taking ownership of the preparation of Dutch GAAP tax provisions for the statutory financial statements, including the underlying tax positions and supporting documentation.
- Working closely with the finance department and external advisor on tax accounting, tax provisions and the reconciliation between tax returns and financial statements.
- Supporting the assessment and documentation of technical tax positions, including interpreting Dutch tax legislation and preparing position papers where appropriate.
- Supporting the Dutch Tax Authorities on inquiries and other tax matters, in coordination with the Netherlands Regional Tax Manager and external advisors.
- Identifying opportunities to improve tax processes, controls and data quality, including the use of technology and AI tools to increase efficiency and automation.
- Supporting Pillar 2 compliance activities when required, working alongside the internal Pillar 2 lead.
- Working with colleagues across the broader FedEx Tax organization and contributing to global tax initiatives and technology projects.
Candidate
The ideal candidate is an academically trained Dutch corporate tax professional who combines a solid technical understanding of Dutch corporate income tax with a hands-on approach to compliance and tax accounting. You are comfortable taking ownership of the preparation process, working independently on the underlying calculations and documentation, while also being able to discuss technical positions with Finance, EY and other stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Dutch Tax Law, Tax Economics or similar.
- Approximately 7+ years of relevant experience in Dutch corporate income tax, preferably gained within a multinational environment or Big Four firm.
- Strong experience with Dutch corporate income tax compliance, including fiscal unity returns and supporting working papers.
- Solid understanding of Dutch tax accounting and experience with Dutch GAAP tax provisions for statutory financial statements is preferred.
- Experience working with external advisors, auditors and with the Dutch Tax Authorities.
- A basic understanding of Pillar 2 is an advantage.
- Affinity with tax technology, process improvement and opportunities to use automation or AI in the tax function.
- Strong analytical skills, flexibility, innovative thinking, ability to work independently and exposure to dealing with senior management.
- Exposure to other Dutch tax areas (e.g. payroll tax) would be an advantage.
- Fluent in both Dutch and English.
