Sr. Customs & Excise Manager | Amsterdam Area
Position
At the corporate head office, the position of a senior Customs and Excise manager will become vacant. You will report to the Director Indirect Tax and is part of the larger tax team. The Customs and Excise Manager will be responsible for the technical advisory on customs and excise issues surrounding all the various supply chain flows. You will be ensuring the company to have global compliancy and advising the business and compliance teams on new customs and excise developments and impact of new legislation.
More specifically the activities are:
- Provide high‑quality customs expertise to global and local tax leads, tax colleagues and business partners across the group on the business model and supply chain flows.
- Drive large change projects with respect to customs and excise tax.
- Being involved in implementation of automation tools and emerging AI technologies.
- Act as process owner for customs classification tools and ensure correct coding.
- Support audits and deliver technical guidance on indirect tax topics.
- Monitor global developments and opportunities in indirect tax laws, regulations, and Free Trade Agreements, and translate these changes into opportunities for supply‑chain optimization, risk mitigation, and value creation and address liabilities.
- Maintain and enhance customs knowledge within the company with focus on EU legislation.
- Collaborate closely with global and local Corporate Tax, Customs and Excise teams.
Candidate
- Academic background in economics or law, preferably with strong advisory experience in customs and/or excise.
- At least 6 years’ experience in customs or excise tax advisory at an advisory firm or in-house.
- Technical understanding of EU Customs legislation; VAT knowledge is a plus as this can be brought to the role.
- Experience with SAP and government customs systems.
- Excellent command of English and strong digital skills.
- Proactive mindset and ability to work in international environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
