Indirect Tax Specialist | Amsterdam


At the Trendyol office in Amsterdam a new position has arisen for an Indirect Tax Specialist. The Indirect Tax Specialist will be the go to person for all Indirect Tax issues  in the European region. You will be providing VAT advise on the various transactions, answering questions from the business and finance organization, and you will ensure VAT compliance in the ecommerce, cash collect and marketplace activities of the Trendyol Group.

More specifically the tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Providing advise and managing indirect tax for the European countries where Trendyol Group is operating in;
  • Ensuring proper VAT handling in SAP together with IT and external advisors to improve the quality of information. Initiating, proposing and implementing changes in processes and procedures in view of efficiency and internal control improvements;
  • Preparing and submitting the monthly and quarterly local VAT / OSS & IOSS returns, Intrastat, EC sales listing for Trendyol Group entities;
  • Coordinating and managing the process with Tax Authorities and preparing responses to enquiries from tax authorities including VAT audits and VAT refund claims;
  • Supporting and analyzing the indirect tax aspects of the international business and expansion, including planning and corporate (re)structuring – with an emphasis on the daily activities and customs/logistics operations, managing internal controls over Indirect Tax processes (including monitoring of quality of VAT reconciliation);
  • Conducting VAT risk assessment in line with Trendyol’s business VAT policy and reporting on monthly basis new findings and actions taken to mitigate risks pertaining to VAT accounting and reporting;
  • Supporting the team on development and optimizing the existing EU supply chain and Group’s indirect tax structures in a more flexible and tax efficient way;
  • Train local finance on VAT and address new VAT developments and the impact thereof on the business;
  • Following up current tax laws, regulations and changes, keeping related departments informed about the changes and their impacts on the business and recommending tax planning opportunities;Supporting on a ad hoc basis on other (Dutch) tax means for the Tax team based in Turkey and being the vocal point for the Dutch Tax Authorities.

  • Minimal 5+ years of experience as an Indirect Tax Specialist in-house or in a large tax advisory firm with a broad knowledge in various Indirect Tax legislations (holdings, recovery rights, EU supply chains);
  • Education in a relevant field e.g. bachelor or master in Tax Law or Fiscal Economics;
  • Cross border European VAT & new e-commerce rules experience;
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP;
  • Effective team work and strong analytical & communication skills;
  • Self-starter with ability to juggle multiple projects and produce high quality work product in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
  • You are a curious and friendly personality whilst taking care of business;
  • You proactively addresses VAT issues arising in the business and take action to resolve them;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interact cross-functionally internally and externally;
  • Excellent English language proficiency. Dutch, French, Turkish or German are considered an asset.
