Indirect Tax Manager | Rotterdam

Position

At the office of Vitol in Rotterdam, a new position has arisen for an Indirect Tax Manager who will report to the EMEA Indirect Tax Lead. The position is part of a team of multiple Indirect Tax Specialists in the office, who jointly manage all indirect tax aspects of the related EMEA business activities within Vitol. The role will have the responsibility over both advisory as well as compliance activities for certain countries, with an emphasis on improvement of the compliance process by way of using automation and technology. The position is primarily focused on VAT, but also Energy Taxes, Excise Duties and Customs Duties may cross your path.

More specifically the main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Identify opportunities for streamlining and improving indirect tax processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy;
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies that can improve indirect tax processes;
  • Collaborate with IT teams and/or external system developers to translate business/tax requirements into technical solutions, as well as to test, implement and enhance tax technology solutions (like Alteryx) for automation and efficiency;
  • Support commercial teams on day-to-day business activities including assistance with tax functionalities in Vitol core systems;
  • Assist with preparing and filing of VAT returns, ESL and Intrastat declarations including working with external tax consultants and reviewing their deliverables;
  • Contact with relevant (Tax) authorities in case of information requests/audits;
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams based in the EMEA area (e.g. Rotterdam, London, Geneva);
  • Willingness to travel to other offices in EMEA to collaborate with local staff or to other countries where Vitol is active if needed.

 

Candidate

The ideal candidate has a strong fit with the Vitol values and culture, has an educational background in accounting and/or taxation, and has some 4-6+ years of relevant experience with indirect tax processes. You have worked in an international advisory and/or in-house environment. You have experience with ERP systems and affinity with technology solutions. Fluency in English is required, other regional languages are considered a plus.

  • Have the ability to provide clear and concise explanations about tax related topics to non-tax professionals with different backgrounds;
  • Should be both a team-player and a self-starter who is able to work effectively and autonomously;
  • Have excellent analytical- and communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships;
  • Having experience with clients/projects relating to international trade, e.g. dealing with cross-border supplies, chain transactions, etc. is considered a plus.
