Indirect Tax Manager | Leiden area
Position
Due to the strong growth of the organization a new position has arisen for an Indirect Tax Manager at the headquarters in the Leiden Area. In this role, you will take ownership of indirect tax matters across the group, with a primary focus on Dutch VAT and International VAT and Customs. This is a hands-on role in which you will contribute to building and further developing the indirect tax function within a fast-growing international business. You will work closely with internal stakeholders such as Finance, AP/AR and other operational teams, as well as with external advisors, and play a key role in ensuring that indirect tax processes are robust, compliant and aligned with the company’s international activities.
The role combines VAT & Customs advisory, compliance and process improvement, and offers the opportunity to shape how Indirect Tax is managed within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advising on VAT treatment of domestic and cross-border transactions, including imports, exports, intercompany flows and supply chain structures.
- Supporting the business in designing and implementing VAT-efficient structures for international operations and new activities.
- Providing VAT support to internal stakeholders and building VAT awareness within the business.
- Managing and reviewing VAT compliance processes, including Dutch VAT returns and European reporting obligations (e.g. ICP, Intrastat), in coordination with Finance and external advisors.
- Contributing to the setup and continuous improvement of VAT processes, controls and documentation, including alignment with ERP and reporting systems.
- Acting as a point of contact for tax authorities, supporting audits and managing VAT-related inquiries.
- Monitoring developments in Dutch, EU and international VAT legislation and translating these into practical guidance for the organization.
- Working with external advisors on complex VAT matters and ensuring consistent and pragmatic implementation of advice.
Candidate
The ideal candidate is a proactive and hands-on Indirect Tax professional who is comfortable operating in a dynamic, international and entrepreneurial environment. You enjoy taking ownership and contributing to building processes and structures from the ground up.
Requirements:
- University degree in Tax Law or Tax Economics.
- Approximately 5–7 years of relevant experience, gained in a multinational environment or a tax advisory firm.
- Strong knowledge of Dutch VAT and good understanding of EU VAT rules and cross-border transactions.
- Experience with VAT compliance and reporting, including preparing or reviewing VAT returns.
- Affinity with international business operations and supply chain flows.
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial data is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a pragmatic mindset.
- Fluent in English; Dutch is considered a plus.
