Global Tax Specialist | Amsterdam (remote possible within The Netherlands)

Position

At their office in Amsterdam a new position has arisen for a Global Tax Specialist. He/she will be part of the Global tax team and will report to the Global Tax Director located in Abu Dhabi. This role is to ensuring that the business teams are well advised on the tax impact of their international activities, and that the relevant tax technical analysis of such activities are properly documented in order to support our reporting, compliance and on-going tax controversy analysis.

 

More specifically the tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Research and analyze EU and MENA tax consequences of international operations and other technical tax issues;
  • Planning Activities – support the implementation of non-structural tax planning strategies, which maximize savings on a defensible basis. Review tax research. Participate in the review of proposed transactions to properly advise management of tax consequences. Support the Federal income tax integration of business acquisitions, dispositions and restructurings;
  • Answering day to day questions from the business and Fertiglobe subsidiaries about tax management and guiding them in line with tax planning;
  • Assist in the preparation and review of any transfer pricing, BEPS and Pillar2 documentation requirements;
  • Monitor the company’s tax accounts, deferred and current, all subsidiaries;
  • Supervising several concurrent engagements;
  • Managing the process for consolidating and reviewing tax estimates provided by tax teams for Budgets and Forecasts;
  • Monitoring changes in local jurisdiction tax law changes and liaise with tax teams to assess implications;
  • Overseeing annual process for foreign business units to provide information to the tax team to enable them to file (outsourced) tax returns for foreign subsidiaries;
  • Review the Permanent Establishment risk across regions and related Tax filing.

Headquartered in Abu Dhabi and incorporated in Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), Fertiglobe was formed as a strategic partnership between OCI Global and ADNOC in September 2019. The company’s history is built on OCI Global and ADNOC’s MENA fertilizer businesses. OCI Global first entered the nitrogen fertilizer business in 2005 by constructing and acquiring a 30% stake in Egypt Basic Industries Corporation (EBIC). By 2019, OCI Global’s MENA fertilizer platform also included 100% of Egyptian Fertilizers Company (EFC), 51% of Sorfert Algérie, and a 60% share in EBIC, forming one of the region’s largest export platforms. Fertil was established in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi in 1980 as a joint venture between ADNOC (66%) and Total (33%) and became operational three years later, producing ammonia and urea. ADNOC acquired Total’s stake in 2018, making Fertil 100% owned by ADNOC. In 2019, Fertiglobe was established as a strategic partnership between OCI Global and ADNOC. In 2021, Fertiglobe marked a significant milestone with a landmark IPO on the ADX and acquired an additional 15% in EBIC. In 2023, ADNOC announced the purchase of OCI’s 50% stake in Fertiglobe for $3.62 billion, which transaction completed in October 2024.

Candidate

The ideal candidate will have in-depth tax technical knowledge with experience evaluating and advising on international business initiatives and proposals. You must be able to work closely with members across a global tax department as well as external stakeholder teams (e.g., Accounting, Legal, Finance), and communicate business plans, obtain tax subject matter input, and ensure coordination and execution of cross-functional tax solutions in a sustainable manner.

Furthermore you have:

  • Relevant degree in tax law or tax economics;
  • Some 5-6 years of relevant working experience within a large international advisory firm like the Big4. Having in-house experience is considered a plus;
  • The ability to explain complex tax concepts in ways that are understandable and useful to non-tax professionals;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team;
  • Strong English language skills, Dutch is considered a plus.
